Many of the coastal towns had magnificent museums honouring the aboriginal people and the pioneering families.

Made me think - what do we have? Not much.

Certainly nothing to compare to the southern towns.

I love old black and white photographs and articles written of our, Port Stephens, fishing and boating history.

This is one which appeared in the 1930s Schnapper, caught off Nelson's Bay Wharf.

Mr A.H.Blanch sends along the following item showing what sort of schnapper have been caught off the Nelson's Bay wharf from Saturday, April 2 until Tuesday, April 5.

Caught by J. McDonald, one 25lbs weight: T. Disney "Forky" one 21lbs; J. Hepburn, two weighing 16lb and 17lb respectively; Mr. Barry caught four fish, two weighing 16lb each and one 15lb and one 6lb. The eight fish weighed in all 133lbs.

In addition to this Mr Barry and party caught 33 good bream - Port Stephens "Pilot" The Mr Barry, was Ron Barry uncle to Fingal Bay champion Ken. I think the year was 1932.
