St Michael's Primary School students from year 3 up to year 6 had the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture and the Port's Indigenous community in July with a visit to Murrook Culture Centre.

During NAIDOC Week, students visited the Williamtown-based centre to explore and learn about the Worimi Aboriginal people's culture.
Students enjoyed a variety of activities including boomerang throwing, dance and painting.
To their delight, the students discovered year 5 teacher, Trevor Ryan, had been a past boomerang throwing champion.
In participating in an Indigenous dance, students learned the moves to represent spirit animals such as the kangaroo, emu, eagle and the dolphin.
They also painted a boomerang with Aboriginal symbols and enjoyed a talk on Aboriginal history and culture by Worimi man Justin Ridgeway.
"It was the best day ever. I hope you travel there one day, it was amazing. I learnt so much," St Michael's student Angel Maricic said.
Jett Samuel agreed, saying: "It was a great experience to learn about Aboriginal culture and their history. We also learnt some life skills on the bushwalk which we can use when we are in the bush."
