I was asked through the week "what is the best boat to buy for Port Stephens?"
This is more complex than you think. Firstly, consider the family: Who is interested? Secondly, list the spots that you are most likely to visit inside the port - Tea Gardens, the Myalls, Karuah River - and outside - Broughton Island, Fingal Light - or all of the above.
Size of boat and motor, ease of launching and retrieving and storage must be considered. I solved the problem by having two boats - Stinkpot (an 11 footer) and Stinkbug (16 footer).
You most likely wish to buy a multipurpose boat. My suggestion is to write out all your considerations and take them to the boat salesman of your choice. Now is the time to buy before the summer rush.
Squire around 2kg are going crackers from Fingal south to Fishermans Bay and Birubi.
One problem is that launching off the beach has certain difficulties including a shore break and soft sand. Experience is the only teacher.
