Still only aged 12, the Year 7 Irrawang High School student has been selected to play for the under 13s Hunter Wildfires representative team and is enjoying every moment.
After playing basketball and soccer as a youngster, Connor made the decision three years ago to convert to union after attending a 'come and try' day.
"Connor loved the team environment in rugby and how the boys encourage each other," his mother, Nichole Lowdell, said. "He really enjoys the camaraderie."
A front-row forward with the Maitland Blacks, Connor was selected last year to play with the Hunter New England team, however that tournament was cancelled because of COVID-19.
Wallabies legend David Campese - an Australian rugby union player (1982-1996) with an incredible 101 national caps - presented Connor with his Wildfires jersey in the lead-up to the country championships which were conducted at Salamander Bay last weekend.
"It was a big thrill for Connor to meet and speak with David Campese, who took the time out to explain to Connor the strategy behind his famous step."
The Wildfires team finished a respectable third in the under 13 years championship, behind winners Central Coast, who they hope to face again in the state country championships to take place in Dubbo over the June long weekend.
Mrs Lowdell said that the family was extremely proud of Connor's achievements and commitment to training.
"He is so devoted to his rugby career, training with the Maitland side every Monday and Wednesday, training with the Wildfires every Tuesday and Friday and being involved with the Irrawang High's Clontarf program every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings."
Connor aspires to one day pull on the Wallaby jumper and fulfil a lifetime dream.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, May 29, Tuggerah sporting complex will host the Central Coast and Hunter Co-Comp Super Saturday of junior rugby, where the Nelson Bay club will field teams in the under 13s, under 15s and under 16s.
The carnival will be played across five fields, comprise 15 clubs playing 26 games from 9.30am, with all proceeds going to Lifeline.
"The day promises to provide some great rugby while helping to raise funds and awareness for a great cause. Parking fee is $10."
