Boxes filled with breakfast condiments, eggs, milk, tea, coffee, soap, tissues, hand sanitiser, kitchen wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, vegemite, toilet paper and milo have been making their way to those in the community feeling the COVID struggle.
"We know our community is suffering right now, with many families being impacted by the government restrictions and vulnerable groups unable to leave their homes," Ben Robinson from Terrace Central said.
"We've worked with our retailers to find a way to deliver these essential items straight to our communities in need, and we will continue to deliver these care packs to homes across Port Stephens throughout September. If our community can't visit us then we'll bring the centre to them.
"This is only a small gesture from our family to yours but something we felt we needed to do to ensure we continued to support the Port Stephens community who have always supported us."
One of the recipients of the care packs was Bec Beattie who is currently isolating with her three children.
"I nearly cried when they brought the food to me. It's very important we support each other," she said. "It's very important we support each other, we're all in this together and we can all do our part and keep our town safe for the next generation."
The care packs were inspired by an act of kindness from Terrace Central Takeaway and Seafood shop which donated lunch packs to Lakeside COVID testers.
The centre's initiative is supported by retailers Woolworths, Terry White Chemmart, Terrace Meats, Terrace Central Takeaway and Seafood, Storm Hobbies and Gaming, Barrington Bakery, Rivershop Delivery Partner plus partners Port Stephens Family and Neighbourhood Services, Raymond Terrace Men's Shed, New Life Church and Raymond Terrace Public School.
