The 19 year old will remain in custody until at least February after he was refused bail in Raymond Terrace Local Court on Thursday.
Port Stephens police said officers patrolling along Richardson Road in Raymond Terrace about 7.40am on Wednesday, December 15 attempted to stop a Holden Commodore sedan.
Police said there were five people in the vehicle at the time.
The car allegedly failed to stop when directed to and accelerated away from officers.
A pursuit was initiated.
"The pursuit continued through several streets before the Commodore crashed into a brick fence in Watt Street and the driver fled the scene on foot," police stated.
"The other four occupants of the vehicle were spoken to by police at the scene."
Police established a perimeter and with the assistance of PolAir and the dog unit, the 19-year-old driver was found hiding in another vehicle in Brown Street.
The man was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, destroy or damage property and drive while licence cancelled.
Additionally, he was charged with two outstanding warrants and more than 20 other charges relating to a range of theft, assault and traffic-related offences, police said.
The man was refused bail and appeared in Raymond Local Court yesterday on Thursday where he was formally refused bail.
He is due to appear in the same court on February 14, 2022.
Inquiries are continuing.
