The school’s girls soccer team made it to round seven (the Hunter final) and finished in the top 16 of the state’s annual PSSA soccer tournament.
“This year makes it the most successful girls soccer team Tanilba Bay Public School has ever had,” teacher and the team’s coach, Marc Gattenhof, said.
Tanilba played the Hunter final against West Wallsend on Tuesday, September 5.
Wallsend won in extra time, 2-1.
During the tournament, the Tanilba girls scored a total of 46 goals and only had four against.
The team is made up with girls from years 5 and 6.
They began training for the tournament in January.
“The girls always display excellent sportsmanship, team effort and enjoyment,” Gattenhof said.
Gattenhof has teaching at Tanilba Bay for five years.
He said in his first year of putting a team together only 14 girls tried out.
This year 78 girls tried out for one of the 14 spots on the team.
The Tanilba Bay girls will now play in the annual Port Stephens Soccer Gala Day, which they hope to win for a fourth year in a row.
