After eight games played since the competition began on November 11, the Bay under-16 girls team has lost five and won three.
Team manager Verity Chappell said the games have been tough and close. Tougher still for the Bay who have yet to play a game with a full squad.
“The girls have done really well considering some game we’ve run on with just nine and no subs,” she said.
In Windale on the Saturday, December 2, the Bay girls lost both their games 16-12. Touch football and other sporting commitments saw the Bay girls play two games with just nine on the weekend.
The team is in Berkley Vale this weekend and will end the summer tackle series in Raymond Terrace on December 16.
Chappell said the talent that has been on show throughout the competition, not just from the Bay team, had been “amazing”.
“There’s some crazy talent out on the paddock,” she said.
“Our girls are just loving it. The talent is unbelievable considering a lot of these girls have never played before.
“It’s funny seeing parents on the sidelines. They see their kids make these tackles and fist pump in the air.
“They have no idea their girls can do things like that.”
Chappell said Australia claiming the Women's Rugby League World Cup has also inspired the Bay girls.
