A bumper crowd had filled out Tomaree Sports Complex in anticipation for the outdoor screening of children’s animated movie The Secret Life of Pets on Saturday.
Throughout the afternoon, movie-goers enjoyed entertainment including live music, activities, workshops and a visit from some of the movie characters.
However, persistent wind into the evening forced organisers to pull the plug on the big screen.
In a Facebook post Port Stephens Athletic Club created for Saturday’s event, Newcastle Permanent, the banking institution behind Cinema Under the Stars, thanked those who turned out and expressed its disappointment that the show could not go on.
“We are incredibly disappointed that the wind has prevented us from being able to screen The Secret Life of Pets tonight,” the Facebook post read.
“For those who are local, we have Cinema Under the Stars Newcastle at King Edward Park next Saturday night (13th January).
“Apologies again and thanks for your understanding.”
Newcastle Permanent has not indicated whether it will return Cinema Under the Stars to Nelson Bay.
