Clean Up Australia Day will be held on Sunday, March 4, after Schools Clean Up Day on March 2 and Business Clean Up Day on February 27.
During the past 27 years volunteers have donated more than 32 million hours to clean up more than 171 thousand locations across the country. Together they have removed the equivalent of 344 thousand ute loads of rubbish.
“What is clear is that our increased dependency on single use items is making Clean Up Australia Day even more relevant than it was when it started 27 years ago so I urge you to get your friends, family, team mates and colleagues together and sign up for 2018 Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 4 March,” Ian Kiernan AO, chairman and founder of Clean Up Australia, said.
More than 20 clean up events in Port Stephens have been registered on the Clean Up Australia Day website.
Clean up events have been listed for the Fitzgerald Bridge in Raymond Terrace, Fisherman’s Bay Park, Gan Gan Lookout in Nelson Bay, Irrawang primary and Tomaree High School, McDonald’s in Raymond Terrace, Salamander Bay, Heatherbrae and Williamtown, streets in Medowie and Briubi Beach.
Anyone interested in donning some gloves and pitching in can join many of the events already registered on the clean up website. Some are closed events. Residents can also create an event for a site if they feel it needs a clean up.
