It was Matt Smith who claimed the ultimate prize in Raymond Terrace Aquatic Club’s powerboat racing last weekend, pipping his future son-in-law Shane Martin to the post and winning the 2018 Carpet Court Hunter Valley Championship.

More than 30 power boats raced along the Hunter River in seven classes on October 13 for the aquatic club’s championship.
The championship was won by Smith in his boat, Watersports Marine, in front of Martin in Hunter Valley Fire.
Smith also won the unlimited outboard class.
Other winners included Brent Lewis in Decision (unlimited inboard), Avago Craig in Stauner (105 Super Stock), Adam Wood in Trouble (5.2 Litre Open), Graham Wright in Too Wright (550cc) and Karla Foody in Lil Chev (Formula Futures).
The aquatic club’s commodore, Greg Lewis, said it was a “good day”.
The club’s next event will be round one of the Blue Water Oyster Series for Formula Futures (juniors) on November 11.
