Reports are rolling in thick and fast. Snapper in close, whiting along the beaches and inside the port, beach bream on Stockton and Fingal and mud crabs in Tilligerry Creek. Everything has decided to start dancing.
Big snapper have moved in under the protection of the white water that surrounds the headlands, islands and rocky outcrops. Of course, the bigger the sea, the more white water and the greater the danger to those who choose to target this tiger country from the rocks or out of a boat.
Through the week, Sydney visitor Trevor Clenton fished the 'suds' around Broughton Island floating baits in real tiger country.
Those who target these areas are known as "wash warriors" and they know that the rewards can be high but the risks must be considered.
I am not recommending you try this method without the company of an experienced 'washy' mate.
It is essential to note the wind and current direction, the stage of the tide and the height of the waves. Also, it is essential, whether you be on the rocks or in a boat, to wear a life jacket.
