The course has been reopened to Nelson Bay Golf Club members but with restrictions, as set by the government to assist in halting the spread of COVID-19.
"We are focused on providing a place for our golfing members to enjoy outdoor activity whilst strictly adhering to all the government guidelines," Nelson Bay Golf Club president Peter Powers said.
"We have adapted our rules to meet these guidelines while continuing to offer golf to Port Stephens."
Bluewater Grill, located inside the Nelson Bay clubhouse, has also reopened to provide takeaway meals, available from 11am each day.
The NSW Government allowed golf to resume at the start of April but the decision to reopen or remain closed was up to each individual club.
Nelson Bay Golf Club resumed golf activities (the clubhouse remains closed to the public) to its members last week.
In Port Stephens, Muree Golf Club in Raymond Terrace, Horizons Golf Resort in Salamander Bay and Tanilba Bay Golf Club has reopened to members.
Pacific Dunes Golf Club in Medowie remains closed. However, there is still plenty happening with upgrades being carried out to the course and clubhouse.
In response to the NSW Government allowing golf to resume across the state under the current Public Health Order, NSW Golf outlined a number of guidelines for clubs and golfers to follow.
These guidelines include:
- No sharing of golf carts (exception for those living together)
- Increase intervals between tee times
- Play in groups of 2. We strongly advise clubs to use one starting tee only
- Adhere to the 4 square metre distancing rules as a minimum
- No presentations at the conclusion of competitions
- Ensure contact with golf-related infrastructure is minimised
- Leave the doors to Pro Shops open
- Introduce the new modified Rules of Golf so that flag sticks and bunker rakes aren't touched
- Reduce hole depth
- Ensure personal hygiene standards are maintained at the highest level
- Don't attend the golf club if you feel ill, or have been in contact with someone who is
- Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands
- Don't shake hands
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth because your hands touch many different surfaces and can easily pick up viruses
Port Stephens golfers are being advised to consult their club's COVID-19 policy.
