Newcastle Airport CEO Peter Cock said it was encouraging to have the popular Newcastle to Melbourne [and return] service back on schedule.
"The Jetstar service will reconnect the Port Stephens region to the Melbourne market, stimulating tourism business, reconnecting families and allowing vital work-related travel to recommence," he said.
"Recent survey results showing the willingness of people from the Hunter to travel were front and centre in our pitch to the airline and prior to Covid-19, the Jetstar Melbourne service was in high demand."
Mr Cock said that passengers arriving at Williamtown will notice a number of additional measures within the airport itself to help ensure their health and safety remains a priority.
"These include social distancing guidelines, an increased cleaning regime and extra hand sanitiser available throughout the terminal. In addition, Jetstar has introduced a number of new programs to assure passengers' health and safety aboard their services through their Fly Well and Fly Flexible initiatives.
"We're anticipating strong passenger numbers in response to this initial resumption of flights and will hopefully see greater frequency and more destinations come on soon."
