It's good to know that there is one spot in town that is red hot - the Nelson Bay Breakwall.

An early morning stroll along the breakwall will find a growing number of luderick fishos lined up, staring intently at their floats, waiting for the moment when they sink below the surface.
Strike! And the long thin rod bends into a wide arc as the fish puts up a mighty fight.
Bream are also targeted with a floating prawn bait allowed to wash along the wall with the tide.

Occasionally a surprise awaits as it did for Petar Perekovic.
With bream on his mind Petar was nearly pulled into the drink by a big fish that certainly was not a bream.
A struggle resulted in a magnificent 4.8kg snapper.
A top effort on a light line and 1/0 hook.
There are no other spots along our coastline that I know where snapper can be caught less than a five minute dawdle from the CBD.
How lucky are we!
