Following Croquet NSW's negotiations with the NSW Office of Sport, members of the Port Stephens club were once again able to access the Tomaree Sports Complex courts on May 18.
Not deterred by the heavy rain that almost forced the cancellation of opening day, six players waited patiently for the storm to pass, which it did, and were able to enjoy the first games played at the club in eight weeks.
Play is currently restricted to singles.
All games must be pre-booked and pre-paid before players step onto the courts.
Entry into the clubhouse is off-limits.
This is a measure enforced by the club, which is following the Australian Institute of Sport's Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment and the National Principles for the Resumption of Sport and Recreation Activities.
The club is also required to follow the Roadmap to a COVID Safe Australia, which places limits on the type of activity that can be conducted and the number of people who can gather at facilities.
Nelson Bay Croquet Club is currently permitted to allow training and playing in no more than pairs.
Physical distancing - maintaining a 1.5 metre distance from others - must be adhered to.
It is expected that the club will soon be able to allow more people at the courts at the one time.
To celebrate the return to play, Nelson Bay Croquet Club jumped on a wildly popular COVID-19 lockdown trend which saw people dress up in all types of costumes and clothes and video themselves wheeling their bins out to the curb.
Members of the club dressed up in fun clothing and wheeled out the bins.
All playing sessions must be pre-booked through David Wilson by mobile 0476 158 555 or e-mail David_Wilson@internode.on.net.
