Under-19 men's coach Andrew Chapman said the Sharks' 26-0 loss to Charlestown did not reflect the team's efforts in the game, which left one player with a shoulder injury, another with a concussion and two with minor head injuries.
In a case of friendly fire, under-19 Sharks captain Aden Jenkins and Cooper Pitt accidentally clashed heads during the game. They remained in high spirits following the game and were stitched and glued up in hospital that afternoon.
"The game was an extremely physical and fast paced," Chapman said. "The score showed no reflection of how much effort the boys put in. Every game is a learning curve which we can take away and improve on."
Players' player for the game was Dylan Petith.
The Sharks men face Kurri Kurri away on Saturday. Kick off is 1.45pm.
The Nelson Bay Sharks ladies Blues tag team also had a physical encounter against Central Newcastle on Sunday.
Playing at St John Oval, the ladies went down 46-4.
The Sharks' lone try was scored by Eden Houston. Players' player for the day was Raegan McIlwain.
Coach Kris Paton said in a "very physical game" the Sharks learnt a lot from a "very fast paced group of girls from Central".
"Although down a few players [on Sunday] due to it being Father's Day we look forward to a full team back on the field against Kurri Bulldogs at Kurri Kurri," Paton said.
Kick off is 12.30pm.
Just three weeks remain in the regular season before finals kick off.
