Misuse of parking spaces for people with a disability was a key focus of the month-long blitz which saw rangers conduct more than 50 patrols across Port Stephens resulting in the infringements and five permits being confiscated.
"We allocate time to check disability parking zones and wait for the owners of vehicles parked in the zones to ensure they are using the Mobility Parking Scheme permit correctly," Port Stephens Council's environmental health and compliance coordinator, Marc Goodall, said.
"After over 50 patrols last month, our rangers had 41 interactions with permit holders, issued 30 infringements and confiscated five permits that were being incorrectly used.
"Most members of the community appreciate the work we do to make sure these parking spaces are available for people who actually need them.
"It's one way we can help make Port Stephens more accessible for people who rely on being able to park close to public facilities."
Mr Goodall said the misuse of parking spaces for people with a disability is an issue in many local government areas and that rangers conduct blitzes to monitor it throughout the year.
The council is currently seeking feedback on its wellbeing strategy to improve accessibility and inclusion in Port Stephens.
The survey is open until 5pm on May 28. Survey participants have the chance to win one of four gift vouchers valued at $50. Complete the survey here: haveyoursay.portstephens.nsw.gov.au/community-wellbeing-strategy/
