Hannah Parade leading to One Mile Beach will be resealed and the car park upgraded while a section of James Road in Medowie will be rehabilitated after the council secured funds through the NSW Government's Fixing Local Roads initiative.
"We know the community of Medowie has been calling for a fix for James Road for some time, so it's fantastic that we're now able to get to work on rehabilitating this section of road," Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said.
"The funding will also allow us to reseal Hannah Parade at One Mile including the car park. Anyone who loves One Mile beach will know how popular this short stretch of road is and how much of a difference this will make to users."
Of the grant, $315,000 will be used to reseal the existing road pavement of Hannah Parade and extend the seal into the gravel parking area.
In Medowie, $350,000 will be used to rehabilitate the existing pavement of James Road from Boyd Boulevard to about 500 metres north.
Work on both projects is scheduled to start in late 2021, the council said.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Taylor Martin said the funding would not only mean "smoother trips" for motorists but would "reduce the maintenance backlog for local roads".
"It will also create much-needed jobs in Port Stephens as council commences work on these shovel-ready projects that will stimulate the economy," he said.
Cr Palmer said the council would turn its focus to Gan Gan Road in One Mile "over the coming months".
"This is one of our highest priority projects as part of council's $3 million commitment to road rehabilitation across Port Stephens," he said.
