Anna Bay champion Greg Finn spent a few days around Broughton Island checking out the reefs and washes in the hope of hooking a snapper or two.
Fishing the reef system north of the island Greg ran into a hot bite with cracker snapper between 3-4 kg smashing floating slimy mackerel baits just behind a rich berley trail.
If you have never caught a big snapper this is the time to do it.
Chasing snapper with plastics is growing in popularity. There is no secret method or magical technique involved, it is a simple case of casting where the snapper are and let the plastic do the work.
The real trick is to determine where the snapper are likely to be. The best fisher in the world will not catch snapper where they are not.
The vast reef system from Birubi north to Broughton and further north to Seal Rocks is magnificent snapper country with the most popular hot spots south of Tomaree Headland being off Fishermans Bay, Rocky Point, Boulder Bay and Fingal Outer Light.
North of Tomaree try Boondelbah and Little Islands before heading to Broughton.
Good luck.
