For local champion Elise Jensen it will be her thumping great 95 centimetre snapper that she battled south of Cod Rock.
Floating a slimy mackerel bait over the extensive reef system off Broughton Island Elise hooked the monster in 20 metres of water.
Of all the fishing spots around Broughton Island, Cod Rock is the most mentioned.
The barren outcrop that we refer to as "Coddy" is the most southerly rock structure off the main island west of the Looking Glass.
The reef system that surrounds Coddy is perfect habitat for snapper with sharp peaks and steep drop offs.
Many prefer to anchor and berley while others toss plastics as they drift.
Interestingly it seems that the bigger fish are caught on plastics while the most are taken on baits.
The mystery of the missing mullet has been solved.
The huge schools that swim from Stockton Beach to Fingal were washed further out to sea by the deluge of fresh water that poured into Lake Macquarie and the Hunter River following the heavy rain.
Excellent catches were recorded further north.
