Jacquie Briskham's top loader was one of the six Samsung models of washing machine that have been recalled since 2013.
After having her washing machine on for 10 minutes on the morning of May 20, the machine caught fire and caused heat damage to the laundry of her Corrie Parade home.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokeswoman said the Corlette incident was the 18th on record from the past year where crews had attended a call-out to douse a Samsung washing machine blaze.
"A working smoke alarm alerted the woman to the blaze as her home rapidly filled with smoke," the spokeswoman said.
"She quickly evacuated the building, turned off the electricity at the fuse box and attacked the fire from outside using a garden hose."
Two Salamander Bay FRNSW crews arrived shortly after 9am and put out the blaze.
The washing machine was destroyed.
NSW Fair Trading commissioner Rod Stowe said consumers with a Samsung washing machine should check the model number, found on the back of the appliance, to see if it had been recalled.
