Six members of the Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre returned home recently with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the 2019 Australian athletics championships held at Homebush.

The Terrace's Keira McGregor capped off a rewarding season with gold in the under-14 relay as the fourth runner in the NSW team. The girls won by 2.5 seconds and missed the record by just 0.03 of a second.
McGregor also won a silver in the 100 metre sprint in the time of 12.37 seconds, in an incredibly tight finish that saw just 0.04 of a second separating second to fifth place.
In the under-17 javelin event, Jack Kenny pulled out a huge personal best throw of 57.75m, an improvement of 3m to take the bronze medal. Liam Fairweather also won a bronze medal in the under-18 long jump with a jump of 6.88m.
In the under-15s, Ebony Newton progressed to the finals in all three of her events, finishing a commendable fourth in the 200m hurdles in a time of 29.89, eighth in the 100m in 12.98 and eighth in the 200m in a time of 26.24.
In the under-20s, Belle Leonard was 14th overall in the 100m hurdles in a season best time of 16.17 secs. Gemma Hancock was 12th overall in the 400m hurdles in 1 min 25 seconds.
Athletes will be rewarded for their amazing efforts on a club, zone, regional, state and national level at their annual presentation day to be held at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club on Sunday, May 5.
