Preparations are in place for the running of the 14th annual Fingal Masters surf carnival which will take place on Fingal Beach on Saturday, January 18.

This hugely popular day, starting at 9am and concluding around 2.30pm, will see an expected 200-plus competitors.
Longtime club member and organiser Steve Westcott said that many clubs from all over the state, including the Hunter and Central Coast, were expected to take part.
"From the Hunter branch we will have Nobbys, Stockton, Redhead, Caves Beach and Swansea attending, while the Central Coast will be represented by the Terrigal, North Avoca, McMasters Beach, Toowoon Bay, Soldiers Beach and North Entrance clubs," Westcott said.
"Sydney's Queenscliff and Clovelly will be participating, while members from both Port Macquarie and Urunga from the NSW country were also looking forward to competing."
Westcott said that during the course of the day, the Fingal club would be hosting approximately 120 different events ranging from ocean swims, board, ski taplin relay and iron person to beach sprints, flags and a long beach run.
"The masters age group includes competitors starting from 30 years old with some of the older members being in their 70s.
"Last year the Fingal club finished runner-up to Terrigal with McMasters Beach in third place. Suffice to say the Fingal members will be out to regain the trophy in 2020."
Westcott, said that Fingal members had been in training for the event. "We have a strong team comprising of Christine Outeridge, James Worrall, Wayne Freeman, Marguerite White, Jason Stewart, Dimity Stewart, Jo Cooper, Craig Burrows and Stuart Lowrie."
On Saturday, February 1, the Hunter Masters branch championships will be conducted at Caves Beach with a team from Fingal competing, and on the weekend of February 8 and 9, the Hunter branch age (nippers) carnival will be held at Fingal Beach .
"This two-day tournament is expected to attract around 700 competitors attending, ranging in age from 8 - 14 years."
The Fingal Surf Lifesaving Club's nippers and starfish season will return to the fold on Sunday,February 2. For a full list of upcoming events go the club's website.
