Starting this week and continuing until at least June 30, 2021, letters addressed to homes in a number of Port Stephens postcodes will be delivered every second working day.
Australia Post said this was due to the dramatic change in the way Australians are now using the postal service.
"Parcel volumes have skyrocketed as customers - and the Australian businesses they buy from - adopt home delivery in huge numbers. Meanwhile, letter volumes have continued to decline, accelerated by the global pandemic," the service states on a card, which will be delivered to homes affected by the change. "This will allow our posties to deliver more parcels safely and efficiently, every day."
Meryl Swanson, the federal member for the Paterson electorate, in which most of Port Stephens is part of, said she was advised of the temporary changes to letter delivery services on Tuesday.
The Port Stephens postcodes that will be effected are 2315 (Nelson Bay and surrounds), 2316 (Anna Bay and surrounds, Bobs Farm), 2317 (Salamander Bay and surrounds), 2322 (Tomago) and 2324 (Raymond Terrace, Heatherbrae).
Australia Post said PO Boxes will still receive deliveries five days a week. Express Post items will continue to be delivered every working day.
