With the current season slowing down we can look back at yet another cracker six months when the luderick fishing was fantastic.
From the rocks at Birubi, Boat Harbour and Boulder Bay to the jetties and breakwalls inside the Port, the reports have been rolling in.
It seems that the art of fishing for luderick has had a resurgence over recent years with many younger fishos choosing to spend their time staring at their home-made floats. There is also a wider realisation that the humble luderick performs very well in the kitchen.
Although the weather has been unpredictable, the fishing inside the harbour remains excellent with Duff at Salamander Bait & Tackle reporting excellent catches of bream, luderick and an occasional kingfish off the Nelson Bay breakwall, tailor circling the Torpedo Tubes and mulloway and dusky flathead further inside the Port.
The beaches are on fire with bream at Samuari, school mulloway off the Fingal Spit and thumping early morning tailor and salmon just behind the shore break on Fingal and One Mile.
Outside the heads snapper, teraglin, sand flathead and leatherjackets are awaiting your arrival.
