Work on Oasis Close walkway under way

WORK has started on the Oasis Close walkway at Soldiers Point.

The walkway has been an ongoing issue for almost 12 months, returning to Port Stephens Council five times before a resolution could be reached.

Footings, known as helical screw piles, have been installed and approach ramps were poured last week.

Council's capital works section manager Greg Kable said the project is set to cost $78,000.

This is less than original estimates tabled at the council meeting of $134,000.

The walkway is being constructed in the thoroughfare between Ash Street to Oasis Close, with both Soldiers Point Bowling Club and the owner of 3 Oasis Close paying $34,000 each towards the cost.

Mr Kable hopes the entire project will be completed by the start of December.
