Nelson Bay Soccer Club played competition front-runners Jesmond last Saturday at Jesmond with the thirsty third grade the best performing team finishing with a 1-1 all draw. Player’s player and goal scorer was talented left winger Nick Wenben. Reserve grade struggled to keep pace and went down 4-1 with midfielder Shaun Shelly slotting home the goal. Player’s player with a strong defensive effort was James Martin. First grade lost 3-1. Daniel Brennan was the goal scorer with Steve Page picking up the Player’s player award.

Raymond Terrace Rugby League Club ran into the slick competition leaders Stockton and were under the pump early trailing 24-6 at half time after gifting Stockton plenty of ball with a poor 40% completion rate. An improved effort in the second half saw the final score line finish at 36-16. The Magpies top try scorer, elusive centre Trai Brekelmans, scored two four pointers while frontrower Adam Jenkinson was a worthy Player’s player with a nonstop performance. Best back award went to livewire halfback Jeromy Fredricks, best forward went to busy backrower Barry Kennewell.
Nelson Bay Bowling Club have had a stellar year in the Newcastle District Pennant series wth five Marlin teams in contention in their respective sections. The club are hosting the 2016 Bluewater Men’s Pairs this week and have attracted a quality field for the event thanks to major sponsor Guy’s Choice Cuts. Among the contenders are Irish international and multiple world champion Jeremy Henry, Jamie Mitchell from Warrila, Commonwealth gold medallist Wayne Turley and NSW rep John Green.
