Jason Moffat, general manager at Winning Holidays, Port Stephens largest private holiday property manager, says demand for private holiday homes has been high.
“A large proportion of visitors to Port Stephens are families, and that’s why the private holiday homes are so attractive. The extended family can all stay under one roof, as opposed to three separate hotel rooms,” Mr. Moffat said.
Danny Eather, Destination Marketing Manager at Destination Port Stephens, says the area has a strong return clientele.
“Some visitors are booking their next visit 12-18 months in advance. We pride ourselves on being a destination of choice for people, so this repeat visitation is sign we are doing well,” Mr Eather said.
Mr Eather said businesses have been preparing for the summer influx over the shoulder season.
“Businesses across Port Stephens have been investing in staff training, conducting renovations, engaging in social media and marketing, all in order to continue delivering first class service”, Mr Eather said.
One business that is ready for the summer season is AquqBlu, a bistro and bar located on the d’Albora Marina, a popular tourist destination in Nelson Bay.
“The month between Boxing Day and Australia Day is crazy. We get about triple the amount of customers during that peak period,” said co-owner of AquaBlu, Angela Nicolopoulos.
“We’ve been operating in the area for eight years, and the summer season is always incredibly busy. We have to double the staff just to meet the demand,” Ms. Nicolopoulos said.
“Families, couples, large tourist groups, locals stopping for lunch with their dogs, all types of people frequent our bistro and it’s such a great atmosphere in the summer.
“We’re a family here at d’Albora Marina, all of the businesses support and promote each other, it’s a fantastic destination”, she said.
