The driver, a 31-year-old man who was making deliveries for a Supermarket, was confronted by two men as he parked his truck in a loading dock at Salamander Bay Square shortly before 5am on Saturday.
Police said the men threatened the driver with an axe before forcing him into the food court of the shopping centre.
The men stole cash from a number of outlets while ordering the driver to lie behind a counter, according to police.
The men were heavily concealed making a description of their appearance difficult.
However, detectives understand the men may have been aged in their late teens or early 20s and approximately 170 to 180cm tall and with athletic builds.
The driver was not injured.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
