A man has been airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries after falling from a truck in Shoal Bay on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to a work site in Rigney Street near the intersection of Tomaree Road about 8.15am on reports a 56-year-old man had been seriously injured when he fell from his truck.
He was airlifted to the Newcastle hospital where he will receive treatment for a head injury.
Police from the Port Stephens Hunter Police District are continuing inquiries into the incident.
It is believed the man had been working with an excavator that fell or rolled off a truck on Friday morning.
A witness told Fairfax Media that he saw the excavator on its side, partially off a truck trailer shortly before 9am.
“My first thought was it has slid, metal on metal, off the trailer,” the witness said.
“Driving back past about an hour later, there was another excavator picking up what looked like logs, a lot of them, and about a third the size of a telegraph pole each.
“If it [excavator] didn't slide off, maybe the logs rolled or the weight took the machine over.”
