The rain forced the service, usually held at the Seaham Knitting Circle Memorial, to inside the School of Arts hall.
However, the hall was a fitting rainy weather alternative venue, with the walls lined with items dedicated to the memory of those from the town that served during the Great War.
“The hall was packed,” service attendee Fiona Lyon said.
“Many had to stand outside the doors.
“Well done to the [hundreds] of Seaham, East Seaham, Brandy Hill and Glen Oak folk for turning up to support the memory of our last centenary Anzac Day.”
Wreaths were later moved to the Knitting Circle Memorial.
School children sat close to the front of the hall where the service was held, mingling among the feet of the catafalque party holding swords.
