The Friends of Black Swan Bay allege that tonnes of building waste have been deposited inside the mean high tide mark without development consent.
Group spokesperson Michael Walton said that a number of Tanilba Bay properties had been impacted by the dumped waste. “Port Stephens Council has been made aware of the dumping and in some cases the locations from which the waste originated.”
“Photographs supplied to both the council and the NSW Government show the reported building waste has not been removed.”
A council spokesperson said that Port Stephens Council had investigated the allegations of depositing of waste at several premises in the Tanilba Bay area and that all outstanding clean up requirements had been completed.
“There are no outstanding matters that the council is actively investigating. Where alleged offenders could be identified, the council staff have investigated their involvement and acted on breaches through infringement notices, clean up notices, remediation or warnings. Council has also been working with external agencies.”
