Police allege they spotted a vehicle driving in a dangerous manner on Raymond Terrace Road, between Chisholm and Raymond Terrace, at 7.25am on September 19.
"Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however when it failed to stop, police initiated a pursuit which continued through the streets of Raymond Terrace CBD for a short time," a police spokesperson said.
"The vehicle then collided with a fence before the offenders abandoned the vehicle on the Raymond Terrace athletic field. A foot pursuit was initiated, with one offender jumping in the nearby Hunter River. A short time later, both men were arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station."

A 23-year-old Mayfield man has been charged with hinder police.
Due to the recent rain, recovery of the vehicle was unsuccessful. Further attempts will be initiated after the field dries out which could take up to seven days.
