Baus, who runs the Jets junior academt at the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, completed the unique hat-trick of last week by taking out the Bowls NSW State singles title, easily accounting for David Ferguson from Engadine in the final, 31-10.
The victory ensured that Baus became the first ever NSW bowler to have won all three state singles championships: being the NSW under 18s champion in 2006, winning the NSW Champion of Club Champions in 2011 and now the NSW open title in 2019.
"It's nice to create a bit of history becoming the first NSW male bowler to win the trio of events," a modest Baus said after completing the magic treble last Friday at Ettalong Bowling Club.
This is the second time that Raymond Terrace Bowling Club has won the title, with Lennon Scott the successful bowler in 2014.
That same year Raymond Terrace also took out the NSWWBA state singles with Kelly Giles (Richards), creating another rare double by being the first club to achieve this feat.
In a remarkable coincidence, that achievement was again duplicated this year with Genevieve Delves crowned the NSWWBA state singles title holder.
Both Gen and Matt will now go onto compete at the Australian bowls championships to be held at Club Saphire in Merimbula from December 2-5.
Gen will also be contesting the Australian championships in the pairs and triples, having won those titles in addition to the singles at the recent state championships.
