David Davies, a long time resident of Raymond Terrace who has witnessed the damage a flooded Williams River can do to nearby businesses, said the council deserved a bouquet for activating the pumps in a prompt manner during last week's deluge.
"I want to congratulate council engineers and maintenance staff who, after more than 40 years of trying by their predecessors, managed to keep the CBD area of Raymond Terrace reasonably free of runoff water during last week's flood event," Mr Davies said.
"However, please do not rest on your laurels. Now is the time to review, plan and prepare for the next flood event. What worked well? What could be improved? Where could cost savings be made?
"I want to go on record in congratulating the council."
