A description of the clothes and an image of the shoes the man, believed to have been aged between aged between 35 and 45, was wearing at the time of his death was released by police on Thursday in a bid to identify him.
The man was found unconscious by walkers on Bridle Track, located between the Nelson Bay marina and Dutchies Beach, about 12.45pm.
Police said members of the public performed CPR on the man until emergency services arrived.
"Despite efforts to resuscitate him, the man died at the scene," police said.
"While the man's death is not considered suspicious, detectives have been unable to identify him and notify his next of kin."
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170 to 175cm tall, of solid build and with dark brown, greying hair.
At the time his body was located, the man was wearing an Urban Supply brand black T-shirt, Mossimo black shorts with white trims, grey socks and size blue sneakers (pictured).
Anyone who can identify the man is urged to contact police.
