In March, 2014, locals, police and ambulance paramedics marveled at the two tonne dark Holden Jackaroo submerged in water about a kilometre south of the start of the recreation vehicle area at Stockton.
The vehicle was located by a passerby smashing around in heavy surf about 500m into the start of the beaches dunes.
A Fenwicks tow truck driver pulled the vehicle from the surf.
No-one was with the four-wheel drive.
Police checked the vehicle and found no-one inside, leaving investigators at a loss to explain how the car came to the water.
The area is a popular spot for four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.
