Port Stephens MP Kate Washington said Ms Kearins was a worthy recipient of the award as she is a tireless volunteer, advocate and organiser for her community in Boat Harbour.
“Coral’s ongoing work to promote better local facilities, and greater accessibility within our community, is highly valued," Ms Washington said.
“Coral has a deep sense of community spirit and she is certainly worthy of this honour.
“I’m pleased to be able to acknowledge her years of hard work and commitment to Port Stephens.”
As part of the 2019 International Women’s Day celebrations, women across NSW like Ms Kearins have been awarded for their commitment to improving the communities in which they live by their local members for parliament.
As a leading member of the Boat Harbour Recreation Club, Ms Kearins not only fought to save the suburb's tennis facilities, but restored and boosted them with a school tennis program that she organises for students.
In a 2013 interview with the Examiner, Ms Kearins said sport played an important part in fostering a sense of community which was why she and the Boat Harbour Recreation Club ran tennis clinics for students.
"Sport helps to lay the foundations for friendships which will serve our community long into the future," she said.
"We are proud of our role in helping to build these connections, and, hopefully, preserve this court facility as a precious community asset."
Ms Kearins is also involved in a push for the creation of an all abilities playground in Port Stephens to support children with a disability and their families.
Ms Kearins will be the guest of honour at the Port Stephens International Women’s Day Breakfast which will be hosted for a second year by Ms Washington and federal MP Meryl Swanson at the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens on Friday, March 8.
