Port Stephens Council has installed the two-way sign in Mitchell Street, restricting parking times to 15 minutes on one side and 'no stopping' on the other.
A council spokesperson said that sign had been in discussion with the Local Traffic Committee and restrictions were approved after receiving a request from a local boat user.
Port Stephens resident and fisherman Stephen Alta said the restrictions were ridiculous.
"I've used this ramp for over 30 years. It is busy, particularly on weekends, where you have to wait more than 15 minutes to use the cleaning table," he said.
