Committee member Russell Durrant said the special service was a way the sub-branch could honour the relationship it had with the RAAF and Williamtown base.
"Many of our members are currently serving with and ex-RAAF," Mr Durrant said. "The RAAF has always assisted with our services. We thought it would be a nice gesture to honour the relationship we have with the RAAF by hosting a ceremony to mark its 100th anniversary."
Members of the community are invited to attend the ceremony, which will be held at the war memorial in Nelson Bay from 10.45am on March 31. The service will include a RAAF flyover.
Invited guests to the service, including World War II veterans, will have priority seating in an area in front of the war memorial. Members of the community will be requited to stand further back in the park to allow for safe distancing.
Unlike other services, which is led by the sub-branch, the RAAF will be conducting much of the ceremony. Group Captain Jason Easthope will provide the address. Afterwards, guests will be invited back to Wests Nelson Bay Diggers for lunch.
The service is the sub-branch's first for the year. Next will be Anzac Day on April 25. Mr Durrant said a COVID-Safe service will be held in Apex Park, however there would be no dawn service or march this year.
