NELSON Bay Rugby Club's first grade team ran into a well drilled Hamilton outfit last Saturday at Passmore Oval. The Hawks produced a fine display of wet weather rugby to outmuscle the Gropers 40-17.

The Bay stayed in the contest with captain Adam Edwards and Chad Northcott working hard to turn the tide. Clever halfback Charlie Fielder scored two tries, however Hamilton ran in two late tries to post the victory.
Seconds coach Jason Gascoigne was a happy man as the Gropers produced a terrific team effort to upset Hamilton 26-7. Classy five eight Liam Street was the players' player. He scored two tries. Centre Brandon Suttle had a strong game with the hard working forward pack lead by Nathan McLeay and Nathan Olivier gaining the hard yards up front. The Medowie Marauders produced a great performance to post a strong 28-10 win in the third grade game.
MALLABULA Rugby League Club played Waratah-Mayfield away in tough conditions on Saturday. The 'Tahs made the most of the windy conditions to have the Panthers coming out of their own end for the first half. They trailed 24-6 at half time. The Bula boys returned serve in the second half and stormed back into the contest with three tries and showed plenty of grit in defence to go down 26-18.
Captain-coach Cameron Scully showed his versatility by playing in the front row and picked up the players' player award. Adam Hodson added some grunt, fullback Lincoln Melmeth scored a try and was solid at the back while serial try scorer Hayden Thompson added to his tally. The Panthers play West Maitland on Saturday.
FINGAL Oval was a miserable place last Saturday but the two Bomboras teams produced a ray of sunshine with two terrific wins.
The men's team turned up ready to play and produced a comprehensive 36-10 win over Awabakal. The girls tag team took down competition leaders West Maitland in style with a 38-4 victory.
The ladies were strong across the park in attack and defence with goal kicker Marnie Parfitt outstanding in the conditions, kicking five from seven attempts. Players' player Aimee McCaull scored two tries. Daetona Mayer had a strong game. The team have a tough road trip to Swansea on Saturday.
The men's team impressed coaches John Gutherson and Dean Carney with their attitude in a game they needed to win to keep in touch on the table. Clever hooker Liam Dooley was a constant threat from dummy half. Backrower Alex Sharp scored two tries and was the players' player. Flying winger Jacob Napoli also scored a brace while Jarrod Diemar ran the perfect line for his touch down. Full back Denver Perferment was strong at the back and scored a try in another strong showing. This Saturday Fingal host East Maitland.
