Scotty's Cinemas will begin screening high quality digital recordings of live New York Met Opera productions on Sunday and Wednesday afternoons, beginning with the original 1869 version of Russian composer Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov from October 31.
Productions of the New York Met Opera are recorded live on stage at the Lincoln Centre in New York.
The Met is world renowned for its opera performances which were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but resumed this week.
"Over this time The Met have issued re-runs of previous operas from the past 20 years but it will be great to see our Met Opera regulars back to see brand new productions," said Scotty's Cinemas' owner Scott Seddon.
German bass René Pape reprises his acclaimed portrayal of the title role of Boris Godunov.
Running just over two hours and presented without intermission, Stephen Wadsworth's production is riveting and cinematic, brilliantly capturing Boris's inner turmoil and the hope and suffering of the oppressed Russian people.
The production will show in Raymond Terrace on October 31 and November 3.
Tickets cost $27 per adult, $22 concession.
