Last October Port Stephens Council letter-box dropped residents of Raymond Terrace proposing a deer cull, drawing for and against responses from the community. "Many members of the Raymond Terrace community do not want these deer killed," AJP's Darren Brollo said.
"If the council's problem is the potential for car strike, there are many more humane methods to prevent collisions than the temporary, cruel solution of killing animals."
On Monday, NSW Upper House MP for the AJP Mark Pearson sent an urgent letter to council calling on them to stop the kill.
A council spokesperson told the Examiner that council had requested a meeting with Hunter Water to discuss the proposed control program.
